The collective thematizes gentrification and visual smog in Brno, which is closel related to the publication of the new Brno Visual Manual of Good Practice. In 2018, the manual became an official city-supported doctrine - a tool for regulating the appearance of signboards and display windows in the center of Brno. However, this was not a fight against visual smog in the sense of combating illega advertising and commercialization of public space through city ads and billboards. The manual proclaimed the fight against allegedly tasteless amateur aesthetics of smal businessmen - diners, fast food stalls, or nail studios. Ugly Brno, whose main aim is to document, archive and defend these iconic eclectic designs of Brno became overnight the relentless nemesis of the manual.
Ugly Brno was exhibited at The Cooper Union in New York (2019) and in the Medium gallery in Bratislava (2023).
