About me
Barbora Ilič (*1993) is a writer, curator, and artist focusing on videos and spatial installations. In her work, the dreamy "connection of the disjointed '' in the form of combining pop culture and visual references often critically addresses artistic romanticization and the commodification of emancipatory narratives.
Barbora Ilič graduated from the Video Studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology, where she is currently pursuing a PhD at the Department of Art Theory and History and has recently joined the faculty as an external lecturer. Her artistic and research practice explores the notion of nostalgia, transformations of digital and generative imagery on online platforms, and their impact on contemporary art.
Since 2022, she has been a member of the curatorial and artistic collective Cejla, which runs a gallery of the same name in Brno. She contributes to publications such as Flash Art and A2. She has edited and co-authored the publication Where Them Stray Dogs At and, in collaboration with the platform Vitamin, co-created KONEKT, a book guide to artist residency programmes.
In 2026, she was selected as one of the artists supported by the ARCHÉ programme of the Kalliopi Endowment.
In 2022, she was nominated in the Other Visions of CZ competition of the PAF Olomouc festival and won the Audience Award for her short film Platonic Breakup (2022). In 2023, she received the Rector's Award at Brno University of Technology for her film Barbara: The Weltschmerz Musical (2023).
