About me
Barbora Ilič (*1993) focuses on videos and spatial installations with an intense emotional charge with key musical components and undertones of (self)irony. Cultural, social, and political events in post-socialist countries are an important motif in her work. The dreamy and relaxed "connection of the disjointed '' in the form of combining pop culture and purely visual references to places and situations materializes in various forms and often critically addresses artistic romanticization and the commodification of emancipatory narratives.
In 2022, Ilič co-founded the independent Brno exhibition space Cejla. Cejla's goal is to create a curatorial collective and a platform that will provide a new exhibition and educational space focused mainly on students and recent graduates of art fields. She is also part of the Ugly Brno collective, which deals with the process of gentrification in Brno, and a postgraduate student at the FaVU BUT in Brno.
In 2022, she was nominated in the Other Visions of CZ competition of the PAF Olomouc festival and won the Audience Award for her short film Platonic Breakup (2022). In 2023 she recieved The Rector's Award at Brno University of Technology for her latest film Barbara: The Weltschmerz Musical (2023).
